His postgraduate fellowship in joint replacement and arthritis reconstructive surgery were completed at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, preceeded by an internship and residency training in orthopaedic surgery completed at
Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City. Dr. Reff's initial medical training was at Columbia University and New York University School of Medicine.

Dr. Reff also served as Chief of Surgery and Chief of Staff of South Bay Medical Center, and is currently on staff at Little Company of Mary Hospital and Torrance Memorial Hospital.
Dr. Reff gained appreciation for medicine early in life from his father, a highly skilled physician. An engineer and builder, he inspired his son to build intricate models, which are reflected in Dr. Reff's careful technique as a surgeon.
